Home DM News Bridal Jewellery Guide: Adding luxury to your big day

When choosing your jewellery for your wedding day, there will be one hundred and one things running through your mind. What metal colour should you go for? Is there a specific gemstone you prefer? Are you wanting to go for a minimalist look or stack all your favourite pieces? The best jewellery makes its debut on your big day, cherishing a lifetime of memories and keeping your love alive.

From pearl drop earrings to a simple white gold stud, bridal jewellery is a personal choice, and one which will take into consideration your outfit, hairstyle, accessories and wedding theme. All of these will blend together to create an iconic look that flawlessly reflects your personality and flair. David Morris experts have carefully crafted this in-depth bridal jewellery guide to ensure your wedding jewellery fits seamlessly into your day and you can tick one thing off your everlasting checklist.

Choosing your bridal jewellery

When choosing what you want to wear on your wedding day, it all comes down to your personal style and the vibe of your look. Are you going to be a glamorous and extravagant bride? Or are you opting for a softer, more minimalist approach? Paired with your dress choice and hair and makeup, your jewellery will need to fit into your aesthetic.

When discovering collections and styles, you will notice a common theme of bridal jewellery being on the simpler side, offering a sleek, elegant finish with a look that will last decades. However, a wedding is an occasion celebrated by all cultures and religions, meaning your traditional jewellery can go from bold yellow gold to a simple white diamond. Whether you are looking for a full wedding jewellery set, a pair of earrings or a necklace, the choice is entirely yours. Here are just a few things to consider when choosing your bridal jewellery:

  • Traditions and culture
  • Metal choice and gemstones
  • Personal style
  • Comfort and practicality
  • Budget
  • Matching with the rest of your jewellery collection
  • Match with your engagement ring and wedding band
  • Wedding theme
  • Bridal gown and fashion choices
  • Matching or co-styling with your bridal party

Metals and gemstones

Like the rest of your jewellery collection, there will be a choice to be made in terms of the precious metal and stone type you opt for. From unique rubies to green emeralds and classic white diamonds, bridal jewellery has no limit.

In terms of your choice of metal, this is probably one of the easier decisions, unless you are someone who tends to mix both silver and gold. The easiest way to make the decision would be to base the selection on your engagement ring and wedding band. If you have a white gold wedding band, you probably won’t opt for a yellow gold necklace and bangle.

Gemstones are also a personal preference. Whilst some brides may have their preferred favourites, others may have a signature family heirloom or something they hold dearly to their heart. Regardless of the reason, there are a range of gemstones which suit a bridal look. Some of the most common stones include pearls, white diamonds and opals, however, this can change depending on beliefs and cultural background.

Bridal necklaces: choosing the right length to suit your dress

Whether you have a multi-row necklace or a single pendant chain, the length of your necklace will need to compliment your dress and fit into the neckline seamlessly. As a simple guide, a short necklace is considered 16-20″ and longer chains tend to be anything over 22″. It is always recommended to style your jewellery when you go to your dress fittings to ensure they fit well and sit in the right place. For example, if your dress styles a boat neck or square neck, you will need to go for a shorter style.

Bridal earrings

Depending on your dress colour and other jewellery pieces, bridal earrings can be anything from simple studs to dazzling hoops or drops. Stud earrings and small hoops provide brides with a simple, elegant addition, offering a timeless finish and ideal for both updos and open hair.

Drop earrings on the other hand, are slightly more extravagant and can be designed in a range of different styles, pairing perfectly if your hair is tied up or you are opting for a slick back look.

Bridal rings: how many is too many?

The majority of brides will already be styling a few rings on the big day. From the wedding band to the engagement ring and possibly an eternity band, there are already a few rings to style.

You must then make the decision whether you’d like to add to those or keep it simple. Again, this is entirely personal and some brides may have a special ring they want to incorporate into the look. The main thing to remember is that any additional ring will need to match your existing stack.

Bridal bracelets

Whether you wear a bracelet or not will probably depend on the style of your dress. For instance, if your wedding dress is long-sleeved, you may opt for bare arms. However, if you have a Bardot dress or simple straps, bridal bracelets can be a great way to add a hint of glamour. These bracelets will either come as part of a set or match with the remainder of your jewellery choices and can be as simple or extravagant as you wish.
